Overview

The Logitech G502 X Plus is the wireless evolution of the most popular gaming mouse shape ever made. The G502 lineage has been Logitech’s bestseller for over a decade, and the X Plus brings that beloved design into the modern era with LIGHTSPEED wireless, LIGHTFORCE switches, RGB lighting, and 13 programmable buttons. At 106g, it is not an ultralight esports mouse. It is a fully featured gaming and productivity powerhouse that happens to have a wireless connection.

Released in 2022, the G502 X Plus is the premium tier of the G502 X family. The “Plus” designation adds RGB lighting (the standard G502 X Lightspeed lacks RGB). It carries the HERO 25K sensor, the iconic dual-mode scroll wheel that switches between ratchet and free-spin modes, and the ergonomic right-hand shape that millions of gamers know by muscle memory.

The target audience is gamers who play a variety of genres (not exclusively fast-paced FPS) and want a do-everything mouse with extra buttons, an exceptional scroll wheel, and wireless convenience. If you play MMOs, strategy games, MOBAs, single-player RPGs, and occasionally competitive shooters, the G502 X Plus offers more functionality per dollar than any ultralight esports mouse.

Design & Build Quality

The G502 X Plus uses a PC/ABS shell with a matte textured coating. The build is premium and solid, as expected from a mouse at this price point. The ergonomic right-hand design includes a sculpted thumb rest on the left side, a flared lip on the right side for ring and pinky finger support, and a pronounced button cluster near the thumb.

At 106g, the G502 X Plus is more than double the weight of some ultralight competitors. This weight is not arbitrary: it is the cost of a metal scroll wheel mechanism, RGB LEDs, a larger battery, additional buttons, and a more complex internal structure. The mouse feels dense and planted on your mousepad rather than light and agile.

Build quality is excellent. The shell is rigid with no flex, the buttons are tightly assembled, and the overall construction feels durable. The LIGHTFORCE switches in the main buttons provide the same crisp, optical-speed actuation found in the Superlight 2.

The RGB lighting illuminates the Logitech G logo and accent strips on the mouse. It is customizable through G HUB with per-key color control and lighting effects. The RGB adds approximately 5-8g to the weight compared to a non-RGB version.

Available in black and white. The design is distinctive and immediately recognizable as a G502.

Shape & Grip Compatibility

The G502 X Plus measures 131.4mm long, 79.2mm wide, and 42.9mm tall. These dimensions make it one of the largest gaming mice currently available. The wide body accommodates the thumb button cluster and the ergonomic shelf, creating a shape that wraps around your right hand.

Palm Grip (18.0-21.0cm hands, 9.5-11.0cm width)

Excellent for medium-to-large hands. The G502 shape is designed specifically for palm grip, with full support at every contact point. Your thumb rests on the sculpted ledge on the left side (with easy access to the thumb buttons), your ring and pinky fingers drape over the right side shelf, and your palm sits on the generous 42.9mm hump.

The 79.2mm width accommodates wide hands comfortably. For hands in the 18-21cm range and 9.5-11cm width, the G502 X Plus provides one of the most comfortable palm grip experiences in gaming. The thumb rest in particular is a feature that other mice do not replicate, and it reduces thumb fatigue during extended sessions.

For hands under 17.5cm, the mouse is too wide and long for comfortable palm contact across all points.

Claw Grip (18.0-21.0cm hands)

Workable but not ideal. The 106g weight makes aggressive claw grip movements tiring over extended sessions. The wide body also forces your grip open wider than on narrower mice. If you use a relaxed claw grip where your palm partially contacts the hump, the G502 X Plus works fine. For aggressive claw grip with fast flick movements, the weight is a significant disadvantage.

Fingertip Grip

Not recommended. At 106g, the G502 X Plus is too heavy for fingertip control. Moving the mouse with only your fingertips requires fighting against significantly more inertia than ultralight alternatives. If fingertip grip is your style, this is not the mouse for you.

Sensor Performance

The HERO 25K sensor supports 100 to 25,600 DPI and provides flawless tracking at all competitive settings. It is the same sensor found in the original G Pro X Superlight, with proven reliability and accuracy.

Maximum tracking speed is 400 IPS with 40g acceleration tolerance. Motion latency is approximately 4.5ms at 1000Hz. These specs are identical to other HERO 25K implementations and provide competitive-grade tracking.

Lift-off distance is adjustable through G HUB. The sensor works on all surface types without calibration issues.

For the G502 X Plus’s use case (multi-genre gaming and productivity), the HERO 25K is more than adequate. The sensor provides smooth, accurate tracking at any DPI, and the high DPI ceiling is actually useful for productivity tasks on large or multi-monitor displays.

Switches & Buttons

The LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches in the main buttons are the same technology used in the Superlight 2. They provide crisp actuation with zero debounce delay, combining optical speed with mechanical click feel. This is a significant upgrade over the older G502’s Omron switches and eliminates double-click concerns.

Durability is rated at 100 million clicks. Main button force is approximately 55gf.

The G502 X Plus has 13 programmable buttons total, which is its primary advantage over esports mice:

This button count makes the G502 X Plus ideal for MMOs, MOBAs, and productivity applications where having extra inputs reduces keyboard dependency.

The dual-mode scroll wheel is the G502 X Plus’s signature feature and the best scroll wheel in any gaming mouse. A button behind the scroll wheel switches between ratchet mode (defined mechanical steps for precise weapon switching) and free-spin mode (frictionless spinning for fast document scrolling, web browsing, or zooming). No other mouse offers this versatility in a single scroll wheel.

Connectivity & Battery

LIGHTSPEED 2.4GHz wireless via USB-A dongle with Bluetooth 5.2 as a secondary option. The dual connectivity is useful: LIGHTSPEED for gaming and Bluetooth for connecting to a laptop or tablet for productivity without the dongle.

Battery life is rated at 130 hours without RGB by Logitech. Real-world testing with RGB enabled shows 90-110 hours, which is still exceptional. With RGB disabled, you can expect close to the claimed 130 hours. This translates to 3-5 weeks of daily use between charges.

Charging is via USB-C. POWERPLAY wireless charging pad compatibility is supported for continuous wireless charging during use.

Feet & Glide

Four large PTFE feet provide smooth glide. At 106g, the mouse requires more force to initiate movement than ultralight mice, and the stopping distance is longer due to momentum. The glide is smooth and controlled but noticeably different from the effortless sliding of a 55-60g mouse.

For the G502 X Plus’s primary use case (varied gaming and productivity), the glide is appropriate. For competitive FPS where rapid direction changes are constant, the weight creates a measurable disadvantage compared to ultralight alternatives.

Aftermarket feet are available from Corepad and Tiger Arc.

Software

Logitech G HUB provides comprehensive configuration: DPI settings (with DPI shift button support), all 13 button mappings, RGB lighting effects, scroll wheel mode preferences, macro creation, and profile management with 3 onboard memory profiles.

The G502 X Plus is one of the mice where G HUB’s full feature set is actually valuable. Button remapping, macro creation, and RGB customization are core parts of the G502 experience. Unlike ultralight esports mice where you configure DPI once and forget, the G502 X Plus benefits from active software customization.

G HUB’s resource usage and stability concerns apply here, but the software is more justified on the G502 X Plus than on simpler mice.

Pro Player Usage

The G502 X Plus is not widely used in professional esports, and this is expected. At 106g, it is too heavy for competitive FPS where ultralight weight is a significant advantage. Professional players who need maximum aim speed and minimum fatigue universally choose mice in the 49-64g range.

However, the G502 shape has an enormous following among casual and semi-competitive players. The G502 lineage has been the bestselling gaming mouse shape for over a decade, with millions of units sold worldwide. Its popularity comes from versatility: the extra buttons, dual-mode scroll, and comfortable shape serve a broader gaming diet than esports-focused mice.

Content creators, streamers, and players who split time between competitive and non-competitive games often choose the G502 X Plus precisely because it handles every use case adequately rather than optimizing for one. A Superlight 2 is better for Valorant, but the G502 X Plus is better when your day includes Valorant, World of Warcraft, Civilization VI, and spreadsheet work.

Verdict & Buying Guide

The Logitech G502 X Plus at $159.99 is the best do-everything wireless gaming mouse. If you play multiple genres, need extra buttons, want the best scroll wheel available, and value wireless convenience with Bluetooth, the G502 X Plus delivers a complete package that no ultralight esports mouse can match in versatility.

Buy if: You play a variety of games, not exclusively competitive FPS. You want extra buttons for MMOs, MOBAs, or productivity. You want the best scroll wheel in any gaming mouse. You prefer ergonomic right-hand palm grip. You value Bluetooth connectivity for multi-device use. You are a G502 loyalist upgrading from a wired or older version.

Skip if: You play competitive FPS and need ultralight weight (look at the Superlight 2 at 60g). You use claw or fingertip grip. Budget is a concern and you do not need the extra features. You find 106g too heavy for your preferred play style.

Alternatives:

The G502 X Plus and the Superlight 2 are not competitors: they serve completely different needs. If you know you want competitive FPS performance, get the Superlight 2. If you want the most versatile, feature-rich wireless gaming mouse available, the G502 X Plus has no real rival.
